About this Tool

Located under the Apps icon in the toolbar of the Canvas rich content editor, the Upload/Embed Image tool helps users work find, manipulate, and embed images in Canvas content.  It can be used to upload existing images stored on local or network drives as well as on the web.  In addition, integrations with Pexels.com and Unsplash.com allows user to search for images in the public domain by keyword.  Once images are loaded into the editor, a variety of editing functions are available before inserting the image into the current location in the editor.

Key Features for Teaching and Learning

  • Upload image files: Upload images from local or networked storage devices and specify their folder location in Canvas Files
  • Find and embed free images: Find royalty-free images from Pexels.com  or Unsplash.com , embed them in the Canvas rich content editor, and save them to your course
  • Load and save an image from the web: Load, edit, and save an image using a public URL
  • Manipulate images: Crop, flip, rotate, and/or resize an image
  • Modify image aspect ration: Change the aspect ratio for an image, including preset ratios for course images and course banners.
  • Create course card image: Save any image as the course course image (instructors only)
